We shot in various locations in D.U.M.B.O., and I would like to say that thanks to this blog, one of the #1 locations that was unavailable became available.
How did that happen?
To start, Brook & I scouted D.U.M.B.O. together and one of her favorite spots was One Girl Cookies. We spoke to the manager and she put me in touch with the owner. When I contacted him, he said “No” and explained that they have had shoots there in the past and the crews annoyed customers and were loud, damaged property, rude, yadda, yadda.
In response I pleaded my case and since he was preparing for Thanksgiving (they make pies and they are delicious) he said “No” again. I explained we would be a crew of 6, no lights, need an hour, very polite. Then he thought about it, and still said “no”.
I understood where he was coming from- he had TV & movie crews there and they were obnoxious, no surprise.
I once again explained our still photo shoot and I sent him a posting I put on my blog a couple of years ago:
He emailed me back and realized I “got it” and told us we could shoot at his place if we need 2 hours or 3 hours? Fine!
We shot the table in the corner (they reserved it for us) and we were in and out just like I said we would.
The moral of the story?
As a Producer you are not only representing yourself, but also your industry and don’t be a rude a**hole because you can ruin it for everyone!
These are the fine locations in D.U.M.B.O. where we shot: All lovely folks to work with!
